At Your Service
Looking to find your authentic voice? Frustrated by vague instructors and looking for guidance from a reliable professional? Sometimes it takes an experienced technician to really understand your voice and its true potential. Having worked with students ranging from high school to adult since 2000, I bring a depth of professional experience and knowledge to those who are eager to expand their minds, talents, and skills. I am at home in both Classical and Music Theatre technique. Having taught at the collegiate level for 15 years, I know what it takes to get ready for that university audition!
As a leader in the Virginia NATS organization, I can help you make those personal connections to the very best instructors in the state.

It is rare to find a teacher who blends real world vocal experience with a gift for inspiring young students. Our son, under Chris Mooney’s tutelage, has evolved over the last four years into a confident bass-baritone, earning admission into some great college vocal performance programs. Mr. Mooney gave him the confidence to earn a spot at the prestigious Tanglewood Institute Young Vocalists Program and placement multiple times in All State Choir, Virginia Honors Choir, and Summer Governor’s School. He has earned best soloist in regional show choir competitions. Chris has guided him in the development of a wonderful classical repertoire, encompassing both art songs and opera. His teaching style is both demanding and supportive. He knows how to get the student to where they need to be. Not only does he produce a great technical vocalist, but he infuses a lifelong passion for music that no one can ever take away. Our family can’t thank him enough for what he has done!
“On the drive home from every lesson I always think about how much I just learned in one hour. Chris Mooney teaches you so much, from the anatomy of singing to the history of singing to the technique and everything in between. Every lesson is tailored to your needs and where you want to go with your voice. We have worked on everything from B.B. King to Billy Joel. He always makes sure you are prepared for every performance you have coming up. He is also very supportive and has showed up to multiple of my performances. There’s no one better way to advance your voice than with Chris Mooney.”
“Chris Mooney is an outstanding professional baritone. He is just as excellent as a teacher, both at the college level and with private students. He is especially unique in his ability to recognize and help students solve technical issues with their vocal production. At the same time, he understands various forms and styles and how to interpret them.
His combination of talents has carried my singing to a higher level of achievement than any time in my career. This region has a very valuable asset in him. I recommend him to all serious students from high school age on (including those singing in their 70's: me).”
“I was referred to Chris Mooney by a local choir director, and I am quite pleased with the results I’ve gotten so far. My vocal technique had slipped by the wayside and I needed some help getting it back in gear. I love how Chris explains the process and anatomy of using my voice. He is both personable and professional. In a short time, my voice has been transformed from a mewing kitten to the MGM lion. I am excited to see how much farther we can take it!”
